Science Editor's column

Congratulations on the 75th birthday

Valery Nikolayevich Reshetnikov, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of our journal, Dr.Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), Professor, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Chief Researcher in the Scientific Research Institute of System Analysis of the Russian Academy of Science (SRISA RAS).

Mr. Reshetnikov is a famous specialist in the field of computer science, system analysis, space telecommunications and communication. The main results of his academic career include the algebraic theory of information retrieval, which has become a classic and basic tool for researching information processes and information processing systems. It has also given new opportunities for building and analyzing search algorithms, as well as for forming requirements for the architecture of computing and communication environments. The results he obtained largely determined the development of the theory of information retrieval and the formation of effective approaches to the construction of information retrieval systems for various applications.

One of the important stages of Reshetnikov’s scientific and organizational activity is establishing the Center of Visualization and Satellite Information Technologies of SRISA RAS. Mr. Reshetnikov led and directly participated in theoretical studies and practical developments to develop the methods of visualization and information display management in scientific research. He has also worked to form and develop the conceptual framework for creating modern and future space communication systems.

Mr. Reshetnikov has a huge pedagogical talent and experience. He successfully implements it in training academic personnel and specialists. He has the ability to see promising research and development areas, to feel the demand for specialists for these purposes. Due to this ability, he has established the Department of Space Telecommunications in the Moscow State Aviation Technological University named after K.E. Tsiolkovsky (MATI), which has become an authoritative educational and methodological center for training unique engineering personnel.

Due to Reshetnikov’s high professionalism, dedication, life wisdom, scientific generosity and benevolence, he has colleagues’ deep respect and students’ appreciation and gratitude.

Our Editorial Board and the editorial staff sincerely is thankful to Valery Reshetnikov for his great support and assistance and congratulate him on his jubilee. We wish him good health, high spirits, energy, implementing new ideas!

This issue of the journal contains scientific findings of Professor V.N. Reshetnikov’s colleagues and students, who develop the scientific directions formed by him. In addition, there are other relevant works of domestic and foreign scientists and specialists.
